Volunteers form the heart of our organization, playing a vital role in providing exceptional care to our rescued donkeys. Purple Donkey volunteers, engage in a variety of activities, including supporting office tasks such as mailings, participating in special events and fundraisers, giving tours, but also hands on activities like cleaning paddocks, moving supplies, feeding, and interacting with donkeys, grooming, and pampering our furry friends, cleaning hooves, assisting with training, and more. While equine experience is helpful, it is not a mandatory requirement as we are more than willing to provide training to those with a willingness to learn.

Donkeys aren't the only small but mighty creatures on the farm. Elizabeth has spent her adult life as a mother, professional actor, restaurant owner and was a top producing Realtor ® in the Charlotte NC / Upper SC 

Real Estate market for over 20 years.

She came to donkeys accidentally but discovered quickly how much joy and peace  these brilliant little powerhouses offer. 

Along with her team of donkey wranglers,  she has expanded her vision of sharing the joy of donkeys with her community. 

Purple Donkey Human Rescue is an interactive donkey rescue and sanctuary, serving the community through equine therapy and therapeutic equine activities. What started with a dream is now a beautiful reality spreading the love and empathy of the donkey to all who wish to join.  Come play with us !

Tom Miller is the muscle and the heart of this operation. Property owner and dedicated animal lover, Tom grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina in a farming and real estate family. He bought this beloved farm in Chester SC almost 30 years ago and is now a deeply invested resident in the Chester Community. His Family had a working farm

Nothing could have prepared Dixie to fall in love with donkeys, but she did. From the first bray, she was hooked. She cannot even say the word donkey without smiling. With master’s degrees in Computer Science and Healthcare Administration, Dixie’s expertise fit quite well in the corporate world. It doesn’t mean a thing to a donkey.

Dixie grew up in Savannah, GA, but she always had itchy feet. After living and working in Europe for several years, she moved to California where she spent the rest of her career in the fast-paced but rewarding healthcare environment. 

When deciding to take on a new project, her criteria then is the same as it is now.

Is it interesting? Do I like the people? Do I think I can make a difference?

Having been asked to serve on the Board of Directors for Purple Donkey Human Rescue fits all three criteria and is privileged to be a part of such a humble and rewarding project.
